Following a big fuss on social media particularly twitter, chief magistrates court Makindye, Uganda has withdrawn charges against Nigerian artists Temilade Openyi aka Tems and Stanely Omah Didia alias Omah Lay as well as Muyiwa Oweniyi.
In a letter signed by Mankindye grade one magistrate Okumu Jude, Kitalya prison has been ordered to release the two singers who were charged with an offense of neglecting and likely to spread the infectious disease.
“The charges against the accused A. Stanely Omah Didia and A Muyiwa Awoniyi has been withdrawn against them. This is to order you to release A Muyiwa Awoniyi and A Stanely Omah Didia the said a cussed persons from your custody forthwith unless held on other charges,” reads part of statement.
Omah, Tems and eight others were arrested by Katwe police on Sunday after he illegaly staged a concert in Munyonyo.
They were later charged to court in Makindye on charges of negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious diseases C/S 171 of the penal code act.
Their efforts to be released on bond were future and they were on Monday remanded to Kitalya prison and were expected to appear in court again on Wednesday 16th December 2020.
